Do you feel like your summer travel is getting in the way of you showing your body love through movement?

Summer travel and showing your body love through movement don't have to be mutually exclusive!

In fact, incorporating movement into your vacation can be a great way to enjoy your destination, relieve stress, AND feel great in your own skin!

Read on for three tips on how to incorporate body-lovin' movement into your summer travel.

1) Eat the frog!

As the Mark Twain quote suggests, get your workout done in the morning.

If it’s your job to eat a frog, it’s best to do it first thing in the morning. And If it’s your job to eat two frogs, it’s best to eat the biggest one first.
— Mark Twain

When traveling for work, delays, late meetings, and unexpected Happy Hour / dinner invitations can all easily derail your best intentions when it comes to your fitness regimen. Set your alarm, get it done first thing, and then you're less likely to have the variables of travel interfere.

This is equally true when you're traveling with friends or family and don't want your workout time to take you away from the fun, or the day's activities. Early birds get the worm!

2) Don't expect perfection.

Perfectionism can cripple travelers when it comes to getting your workout in. The gym at the hotel may not look the way you thought it would. I often find equipment is ill-maintained or broken, when it's available at all.

So let go of the idea that you have to do your perfect workout in the perfect way, like you would at your home gym. If the treadmill is out-of-commission or non-existent, find a stairwell and do a few rounds up-and-down the stairs for your cardio. Or hit the streets and do some running exploration of your destination!

Have some bodyweight-only workouts stashed on your phone in case free weights aren't available, or are being monopolized by another fitness center patron. This can also be a great way to fit your workout in somewhere where you don't have access to a gym, or would just rather be outdoors or hanging out somewhere other than a designated fitness space while you get your body-lovin' in.

And bear in mind something is better than nothing. If you run into issues, and wind up with 20 minutes instead of 30 or 45, that's good enough. Any movement is better than no movement!

3) Build enjoyment into your workouts.

If your workout routine is all drudgery and hard work, it's going to be way too difficult to stick to when you're traveling, and dealing with a lot of other uncomfortable things, like being stuck in a metal tube with a bunch of mouth-breathers all day. Make taking a jog an act of play and exploration in a new city. Plan your workout to end at a cute little cafe, or through a beautiful local park, or bustling city area you want to explore.

You can also take the opportunity to explore a fitness class you would never try at home (ClassPass is great for this--your membership applies in any city, so you can use it while you travel!). Pack your lap suit and use the hotel pool that you normally would never take advantage of.

You can also keep it social, by inviting family members or friends that you're traveling with to join you during your body-lovin' session! This way, you won't miss workouts due to a FOMO (fear of missing out) flare-up!
